Our Story

Over thirty years ago in Midland, Texas, the idea for Rebuilding Together was born. Known then as Christmas in April, Rebuilding Together supported single women in their community by providing minor home repairs. It has since grown to facilitate home repairs to thousands of low-income homeowners year-round.

Robert Moisan established the North Texas affiliate of Rebuilding Together in 2001 after he saw the great need in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area.

As a 501(c)(3), Rebuilding Together North Texas restores hope and revitalizes neighborhoods by bringing volunteers and communities together to repair homes and rebuild the lives of low-income homeowners. We enhance the safety, health, and quality of life for veterans, veteran widows, seniors, families with minor children, and people with disabilities by providing free home repair using volunteers and professionals throughout North Texas. Together we are strengthening the Denton, Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, and Rockwall counties to build a brighter future for North Texas.

As a national organization, Rebuilding Together is a leading nonprofit in safe and healthy housing. Across the country, Rebuilding Together’s affiliates and nearly 100,000 volunteers complete about 10,000 rebuild projects each year.

Why Are We Needed?

Across North Texas, there are thousands of homeowners barely getting by. They are living in dangerous and borderline inhabitable homes due to being unable to afford and perform repairs. Unfortunately, a startling number are needing critical home repair (e.g. plumbing, electrical, roofing, etc.) to create a generationally safe place to live. In addition to financial difficulties, many homeowners have disabilities and physical limitations that leave them without the ability to improve their living environment.

The staggering cost of home repair services puts an enormous strain on cost-burdened families, both financially and emotionally. Additionally, once a home falls into serious disrepair, it can lead to a plethora of safety and health hazards for residents.

Our efforts:

  • Preserve affordable housing

  • Stabilize and build communities back up

  • Ensure the safety and health of residents
